Description

Triamidine, also known as dimetridazine urea, is an aromatic bisamidine antiparasitic drug used exclusively in veterinary medicine. It is readily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in ether. While relatively stable, it requires sealed packaging, storage in a cool, dry place, and away from light. Its injection form is commonly used clinically and must be diluted with normal saline before use.

 

 

Function

Triazolamidine primarily works by interfering with protozoan nucleic acid and energy metabolism. Once inside the protozoa, it inhibits DNA synthase activity, blocking the replication and transcription of nucleic acids, hindering the synthesis of genetic material. It also disrupts the structure and function of the protozoan mitochondria, inhibiting ATP production and leading to death from metabolic disorders and insufficient energy supply. Its effects are highly targeted, with particular efficacy against protozoa such as Pyroplasma and Eperythrozoon, and also exhibiting a limited inhibitory effect against some bacteria.

 

  

 

Application

 

 

Triazolamidine is widely used in veterinary practice, primarily for the prevention and treatment of protozoal diseases in livestock. It is highly effective against piroplasmosis in cattle, sheep, and horses, including babesiosis in cattle and theileriosis in sheep, effectively alleviating symptoms such as high fever, anemia, and jaundice. It is also used to treat eperythrozoonosis in pigs, reducing mortality in infected pigs. However, it is important to note the differences in sensitivity between different animals to avoid indiscriminate use of the drug, which may lead to adverse reactions.
