Leaflets narrowly ovate to lanceolate, entire, veins inconspicuous. A few are perennial root erect herbs. Compound or simple leaves, often opposite. Flowers solitary or panicle, sepals large, petal-like, blue, purple, pink, rose red, purple, white, female, stamens many. There are many varieties of horticulture. Flowering period from June to September. Fruit in summer.
