The main chemical components of psoralea include zanthoxylum toxin, volatile oil, fat oil, resin, psoralen, isopsoralen, psoralen, isopsoralen, dihydroxyisopsoralen, flavonoids (psoralen methyl, psoralen ethyl, psoralen chroenin, new psoralen cholone), monoterpenoid phenols (psoralen phenol, etc.), coumarin. Psoralea has the function of warming kidney, helping Yang, absorbing qi and preventing diarrhea. It is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat impotence, spermatospermia, enuresis, frequent urination, cold pain in waist and knee, deficiency of kidney and asthma, Wugeng diarrhea and other diseases. Modern pharmacological studies have found that psoralea has multiple pharmacological activities, such as anti-tumor, treatment of osteoporosis, estrogen-like effect, antibacterial and treatment of vitiligo.
