  Perennial evergreen herb of rhizoma coptidis of ranunculaceae. Also known as Sichuan even, even, chicken claw coptis. Rhizome is used as medicine. Because of its root such as conjoined beads and yellow, hence the name. Mainly produced in Sichuan, Hubei, Shaanxi and other provinces of China. Sichuan cultivation area is the largest, accounting for about 70-80% of the country's total output, sales throughout the country, and exports. Coptis chinensis is a national protected plant.
  Rhizome can be used in traditional Chinese medicine to remove fire, detoxide, clear away heat, entwine, etc. It can be used to treat fever, entorrhagia, diarrhea, ulcers in the mouth, ulcer, entulpoisonous sauce, etc. Pharmacological test proves that there is bacteriostasis and antiviral, antigenic insect action, and can reduce blood pressure, dilate coronary artery. Rhizoma coptidis contains berberine, rhizoma coptidis and other alkaloids, as well as flavone, phellodenolide and other components.
