Description

Alpha-linolenic acid is an essential omega-3 fatty acid. It is called "essential" because it is needed for normal human growth and development. Nuts, such as walnuts, are good sources of alpha-linolenic acid. It is also found in vegetable oils such as flaxseed (linseed) oil, canola (rapeseed) oil, and soybean oil, as well as in red meat and dairy products. Alpha-linolenic acid is popular for preventing and treating diseases of the heart and blood vessels. It is used to prevent heart attacks, lower high blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and reverse "hardening of the blood vessels" (atherosclerosis). There is some evidence that alpha-linolenic acid from dietary sources might be effective for all these uses except lowering cholesterol. Not enough is known yet to be able to rate alpha-linolenic acid's effect on high cholesterol.

Function

• 1. Prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

   
  Due to thrombosis, blood vessels are blocked, and tissue cells cannot be supplied with oxygen and nutrients, which will eventually lead to death. Alpha-linolenic acid can alter platelet membrane fluidity, thereby altering platelet responsiveness to stimulation and the number of platelet surface receptors. Therefore, the formation of thrombus can be effectively prevented.

   

  2. Lower blood lipids

  The metabolites of α-linolenic acid have a mild regulatory effect on blood lipid metabolism, and can promote the conversion of plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to high-density lipoprotein (HDL), reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and reduce high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Protein (HDL) increases, so as to reduce blood lipids and prevent atherosclerosis.

   

  3. Reducing critical hypertension

  Blood pressure between 145/90mmHg ~ 160/95mmHg is called borderline hypertension, which is initial hypertension. The metabolites of alpha-linolenic acid can dilate blood vessels, enhance blood vessel elasticity, and thus play a role in lowering blood pressure.
