Piper nigrum (scientific name :Piper nigrum) is a flowering vine in the Piperaceae family, also known as Kurokawa, native to the Malabar Coast of India. With its pungent fruit, it was one of the first spices used and is probably the most widely used spice today. Black pepper is native to South India and is widely grown there and in other tropical regions. The fruit of black pepper is dark red when ripe and contains a single seed; When dried, the fruit will become a 5 mm diameter piperine stone fruit. It is also used in medicine as an exorcist and to stimulate gastric secretion.
