  Impatiens are plants of the Balsamaceae family, the genus Balsamaceae. Annual herb, 60-100 cm tall. Stems stout, fleshy, erect, unbranched or branched, glabrous or sparsely pubescent when young, base up to 8 mm in diam. Leaves alternate, lowermost leaves sometimes opposite; leaf blade lanceolate, narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate. Flowers solitary or 2-3 clusters in leaf axils, without common pedicels, white, pink or purple, single or double; pedicels 2-2.5 cm long, densely pubescent. Capsule broadly fusiform, 10-20 mm long: both ends pointed, densely pubescent. Seeds numerous, spherical, 1.5-3 mm in diameter, dark brown. Flowering July-October.
